A part of Japanese Birds of Prey is under the control of The Ministry of Environment of Japan as endangered species (e.g. Golden Eagle, Mountain Hawk-eagle, Peregrine, Goshawk). The species are conserved by the several actions as follows.

  • Investigation of the population
  • Preservation of the habitat
  • Restriction of capture
  • Enactment of the conservation laws

The situation of some species is improved by the action.  For example, classification of Goshawk was changed in 2006 from Vulnerable species to Near Threatened species in the Japanese Red List.
However, the population of some species is continuously decreased under the measure (e.g. Golden Eagle).  In this case, we think that additional conservation projects are needed to find a way out of the difficulties (e.g. hatching or breeding).
Therefore, we are planning to hold the Symposium that active conservation works are introduced to Japanese authorities staffs, researchers and others to find a new understanding.  In the Symposium, it will be introduced the active conservation works for the endangered birds of prey from overseas and status of Golden eagle in the north area of Japan.
We wish that Japanese conservation works would be developed by the introduction of overseas results.
